Ah, the late 70s and early 80s - I remember fondly watching Dickie Davies World of Sport on ITV and seeing those typical Saturday sports on the telly - wrestling, motocross, and horse racing. It was an odd mix, but one that seemed to work. I particularly remember the motocross races. They'd wheelie off from the start line in their colourful motocross gear and go round the circuit seemingly horizontally when they cornered (and basically they were cornering all the time) - the muddy track became a spitting couldron of brown dirt - it was quite a sight to see, and as a kid I always imagined myself getting splattered by one of the passing motorbikes and loving it. Sadly those halcyon days are no more (when it comes to TV watching), but I'll never forget those years that shaped my misspent youth - I'm sure if you're in your 40s, you'll feel the same too! |
