The house and studio project

Possibly my largest 'jewellery' project to date. Well actually the biggest project I have tackled, ever! It has been now five years in the making and I cannot say exactly when it will be finished - although there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
It all began when we found this two and a half acre block at Eumundi and promptly built a large garage on it. But when a deal to dismantle and rebuild a house which was due for demolition fell through I decided I would have to design and build a house from scratch.
The criteria were : affordable, easy to build and a bit 'different' - but it has become more than that. Firstly it is all steel - I prefer to work in metal and besides, there are numerous nests of hungry termites just waiting for some fresh timber. Also steel is ideal for the sub tropical climate as it cools rapidly when the afternoon breezes arrive.
The quirkiness that I designed into the project actually meant I would have to build it myself - nothing about the place is conventional - from the twisted roof lines to the fully welded, fabricated aluminium doors and windows. Then of course there is the lighting, which I plan to design and make using LED's and automated control.
Like this blog, it is a work in progress..........please view the pics or for Hamlet's trotting blog go to eumundipapers.com

Jewellery

I have been actively involved in jewellery design and production since graduating from the University of South Australia School of Design in 1993.
My work has been described as eclectic, unique, dynamic. I love to create objects that have character - character that is the result of functionality, material and form, coming together to excite the senses!
The pieces I create reflect not only my technical background - which embodies engineering, electronics, mechanics and design - but also my technical abilities. These I have acquired through a lifetime of "making things", from all types of materials and utilizing all types of processes, coupled with a desire for the non-conventional.
My jewellery is typically 'one off', hand crafted and while I like to work in Titanium, any material can be incorporated. The pieces I create can range from a pair of earrings to watches, or even an espresso coffee machine.
My design work is equally diverse and can include - graphics, lighting, programmable and custom electronics, clocks, titanium 'anodising' colouring rectifier machines and electro-mechanical fabrication.
